Position Overview
You will be responsible for overseeing the legal aspects of the company's oil trading operations. This role involves ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, managing contracts, and providing legal guidance to support the company’s strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities:
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including purchase and sale agreements, transportation contracts, and joint venture agreements.
Ensure contracts align with corporate policies and legal standards.
Identify potential legal risks associated with trading activities and propose mitigation strategies.
Conduct legal research and analysis to draft opinions.
Provide legal advice and support to business units on matters related to trading operations, regulatory issues, and corporate governance.
Assist in the development of internal policies and procedures to promote compliance and ethical conduct.
Manage and resolve legal disputes and claims related to trading activities.
Collaborate with external counsel(s) when necessary for litigation or legal advice
Conduct training sessions for staff on legal compliance and risk management best practices.
Qualifications:
Fluency in French is a plus Key Competencies
A degree from an accredited law school is essential.
Minimum 5 years experience in a corporate legal role within the oil and gas industry or commodity trading.
Strong knowledge of contract law, trade regulations, and compliance issues relevant to the oil sector.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
